and this is why:

One day before we opened the doors of Suki10c, a man who has become known to you all as Brian approached us as we worked hard to get everything ready and declared that he would not allow this venue to operate and promised us that he would see us get closed down.

At this point in time we cannot divulge anymore information about him or his reasons as this would clearly identify him in more detail than we currently wish to do.

Suffice to say, he clearly demonstrated his wish to close us down. During our opening weekend, rather than call our mobile numbers which we had supplied to him in case of noise issues, he thought it good practice to dial 999 again and again and again claiming that people were screaming, smashing bottles, fighting and urinating in the street. He did this knowing full well that to do so would ring alarm bells with the police, whom we then had to spend 3 hours with at Steelhouse Lane station the following Wednesday, to explain what had gone on over that opening weekend.

This is the quality of individual we are dealing with.

We have been reported to Birmingham City Council for alleged breeches of Planning legislation. We have been reported to the licensing department for allegedly carrying out licensable activities on the 1st and 2nd floors.

And we have had 12 months of complaint after complaint regarding supposed noise nuisance. Even to the point of him making complaints about the 'awful bass noise' coming from our premises when we were not even open! We have complied with every single request that the council officers have made of us, we have co-operated at all times and done everything they have asked.

This has now reached a critical juncture, whereby the council Environmental Protection Unit are on the verge of issuing a Noise Abatement Order on our premises. Brian is urging the council to call in our license for review, at which point he will object to the license and demand that our opening hours be curtailed.

The only option left to us was to either give in and close the business down or fight as hard as possible. We chose to fight. To do this we have had to employ the services of specialist solicitors well versed in the machinations of councils and noise issues. They don't come cheap. Our costs are already at £3000 and if the council do issue an abatement order we will appeal it and our costs could reach £10000.

We survive on a week-to-week basis financially so we need your help. Fundraiser events are the only way that we are going to get the money together to pay these legal costs. So we urge you all to help us in every and any way possible. Because Birmingham needs venues like Suki10c.

THE NEW MONTANA SILVER PLATA 600ML CHROME

OUCH

I spotted this on the way home from work one day and kept up with progress over the next 5 days. Ouch has a few painting around Digbeth and you never know what is coming next from him.
